I’ve been told I’m a good listener and I think this is one of the best compliments someone can give someone else. So - thank you to whoever has said that to me.

I love listening. I love listening to people. I love listening to their words, to their voice, to their cadence of speech. I love listening to music. I love so much music that it’s becoming something of a problem. Back when everything was digital, I would run out of space on my iPad and harddrive all the time. Now I’m running out of space for vinyl records.

What I’m not running out of space for is other people to listen along with me. And that’s what Ear*Wax is all about. A community space for listening, to music, audio fiction. all things audio art - especially indie audio art. Audio art that needs a bigger boost.

I like to play this little game when I have guests over. They look through my records and I challenge them to pick a perfect side. One collection of songs (or sometimes one song) that’s just perfect to listen to for the moment, all on one side of vinyl.

What would your choice of vinyl side be? I hope to find out one day.

My hope is that this includes multiple media in the form of lots of fun things:

  • Album listening parties - pick a new album and get together to listen.

  • New music curation in the form of playlists and discussions. New music can mean brand new and new to you.

  • Audio fiction reviews. Why? Because it’s an important art form and we need more critical voices to legitimize it.

  • Discography deep dives.

  • Non-fiction podcast reviews. Possibly. Eventually. Although I’ll be honest, this is lower on the list of priorities.

  • All in the form of a newsletter, multiple podcasts, and one monthly podcast magazine called - you name it - Ear*Wax.

So that’s a bit what we’re on about. If you’re interested in learning more, sign up for the newsletter. And feel free to take this survey as well. Thanks for swinging by.
