After they released [one of the absolute best bops of 2022,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtgcYmfo2iI&ref=earwaxmag.com) I followed Australian guitar pop duo Royal Otis closely. Their 2024 album **Pratts and Pain** is a solid debut with some real catchy tunes, but it wasn’t until the deluxe edition was released about a month ago that the album really clicked with me, especially with this upbeat romp of a song about the end of a relationship and where to go next.

It’s still way too long, but it signals that Royal Otis is just in the groove right now. If they’re not necessarily cranking out more pocket oyster hits, they’re at least showing off how well they throw songs and ideas against the wall to see what sticks.

The juxtaposition of their happy, rolicking sound and the yearning question of what they have to hold on to at the end of a relationship just…works. If they get themselves a solid editor, they’ll have a classic on their hands in no time.
