Track 10: Mind's a Lie - High Vis

I love bands that have a distinct sound but also push their sound into other genres. England’s High Vis is a hardcore band, but they also sometimes sound like Brit-pop, or the Smiths, with classic Manchester based guitar sounds, or complet diversions, like Mind’s a Lie, their lead single off their triumphant new album Guided Tour.

Built off a laid-back house track by singer/DJ Eli Murphy, the track is both an outlier and a standout on an excellent album, the type that begs to be listened to over and over again. Someone I know describe it as “the entirety of England boiled down to under five minutes,” so there’s that as well.

It’s also a handy type of track for mixtapes because it can bridge, say, a trio of post-punk tracks into some fun electronic tracks. Hint hint.
