Track 20: Big, Dumb - Restorations
Do you smolder? Do you burn out? Smoke intertwined...
Some bands just deserve more love. Restorations is one of them. They released their fifth album this year (Restorations) and like the rest of their albums, it’s really solid rock and roll album with big riffs courtesy of their triple guitar onslaught, shout-along choruses, and perfect encapsulations of how our modern world makes us feel trapped, small, and stupid, only for us to answer with a resounding “NO!”
It’s been a…peculiar week, work wise for me. I’d even go so far as to say it’s been a big, dumb kind of week. I love the beautiful instrumental session at the start of this song, and for mixes, it makes for a near seamless transition between something like Saturn and a song like this, despite the very different genres and styles.
As for the rest of the song, what can I say? Sometimes you need to shout at the world. Sometimes you need to shout “MOTHERFUCKER, YOU DON’T KNOW ME! YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT I’VE SEEN!” at the universe.
It’s possible this is about working a soul sucking job and trying to make sure to remind yourself and everyone else of their humanity. Restorations specialize in songs like that.
So maybe you’re like me and you’re having a tough one. Don’t burn out. Don’t smolder. Let’s not give up that easy and have our smoke intertwine. Crank this song instead. It’s for you. I see you. I feel you. Sometimes it’s all so big, so dumb. What can we do but say we see each other. Say it nice and loud.
