Track 3: Against the Night - Cowgirl

I guess that's just how it feels...

Okay, time to stop messing around and get to some real *songs.* Not that the first two weren’t songs, but they were also about first steps, setting the path, gearing up for an adventure. Now the adventure is underway and we need to set the stakes, and this song by Cowgirl does the trick nicely.

Cowgirl specializes in denim dirty garage rock that sounds like 70s Neil Young railroaded right into 80s shoegaze. It’s upbeat, rousing, and sounds like you’ve spent all day doing things you shouldn’t and the night is here to collect on your misdeeds.

Cowgirl only have a couple of 7 track albums out, and Cut-offs was released in August, kicking off with this track. It’s a perfect “we’re gonna take on the world” anthem, with a stomping beat, fuzzy distortion, and carefree attitude to burn.

I like to plan mixes in sets of three songs, so this ones concludes the opening trio, otherwise known as the three-part introduction. There’s not much stylistically to match these songs other than they’re all great kickoffs just in extremely different ways. And at this point we are thoroughly introduced; quietly, whimsically, pumped up and ready for more. What’s next? It’s you and me, listener. Let’s see what the night has in store for us.
