Track 38: When the Laughter Stops - Yard Act

I need to know my chance is fully blown...

Yard Act is the post-punk band having the best time. They delight in pointing out the ridiculousness of modern life, and then they laugh about how it’s going to doom us all.

Then they stop laughing. And this song kind of sounds like the sobering realization that all that laughter, smartass attitude, and cynicism is really just a defense mechanism, shielding your mind against the inevitable.

Like their live show for their most recent tour, the band expands on their sound with backup singers and richer, dance-punk production. Katy J Person’s singing helps break up James Smith machine-gun Mark E. delivery.

It’s a bop about it all going to shit, with a Macbeth soliloquy to tap it all off. Because at the end of the day, all the sound and fury signify nothing.
